As with every year, the net proceeds from Longmire Days will be donated to community organizations. 2026 Longmire Days 5k and Fun Run o 5k, 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk, and Virtual 5k starting in Prosinksi Park (map) o Children 12 and under can participate for free with a paying adult, but will have no race bib or receive any of the goodies. o 8:30 - 10:30 am, register on the event website Powder River Country Beginnings o Join local historian Nancy Tabb as she walks us through the beginning times of what we call Powder River Country. Native Americans fought over it for many centuries, fur trappers came for the beaver, gold miners came through on the Bozeman Trail, forts were built for soldiers to protect those travellers, cattle with cowboys and sheep with their herders came for the tall green grass the same as the buffalo once had, and finally homesteaders and some outlaws made their way here to try to settle the land. This talk will focus on the years leading up to the cattle war. o Johnson County Library (map) o 11:00 am - Noon - included with Longmire Access, registration required Autograph Session with Craig and Longmire Cast Members o This is one of the most sought-after tickets during the Longmire Days event. Raptor Shows o The mission of the Black Hills Raptors is to conserve and protect native birds of prey and their natural habitats through education, rehabilitation, and research. Come on by George Washington Park near the band shell (map) and be mesmerized by these fascinating feathered friends. o Two shows at Noon and 1:00 pm o Free event, no ticket required When Johnson County Had A Rustling Problem o Join local historian Nancy Tabb as she navigates the troubled waters of the Johnson County Cattle War and the Invasion of April 1892. Nancy believes anything that ever happens in a western movie happened in Johnson County first. During this talk she will describe the incidents that occured during this turbulent time in our county and the effects felt afterwards. o Johnson County Library (map) o 1:30 - 2:30 pm - included with Longmire Access, registration required Writing Legends: Walt Longmire Meets the Founding Fathers and Bonnie & Clyde o Longmire creator Craig Johnson and screenwriter / producer / author Kirk Ellis (John Adams, Into the West, Franklin) share inside stories of the challenges and pleasures of creating iconic characters both historical and imaginary. Expect a lively collision between "truth" and "fiction." o Bozeman Trail Conference Center (map) o 3:00 - 4:00 pm, ticket required - $7.50, includes fees Talent Show Practice o The Playhouse (map) o 3:00 - 4:30 pm, closed to public A Discussion of Powwow Highway with A. Martinez o Join A. Martinez for a discussion of this extraordinary and highly entertaining film. Powwow Highway tells the story of two very different Native Americans, Phibert Bono, a spiritual advisor, and Buddy Red Bow, a political activist, who embark on a road trip from Lame Deer, Montana to Santa Fe, New Mexico. The film, based on the novel by David Seals, explores themes of identity, cultural pride, and the challenges faced by Native Americans in modern society.
